Chawngthu becomes the second woman to join council of ministers in Mizoram in 30 years
On 22 September, 2017 Lalawmpuii Chawngthu became the second woman in Mizoram who is chosen to be in the state’s council of ministers in a a period of 30 years.
At Raj Bhavan, Chawngthu was administered the oath of office by Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma.
Chief Secretary Lalmalsawma commented that Chawngthu and KS Thanga will be given their portfolios on 25 September 2017.
Thanga and Chawngthu were included in the council of ministers after the resignation of Labour Minister Lalrinmawia Ralte and Fisheries Minister Buddha Dhan Chakma.
Incidentally, Lalhlimpui Hmar was the first woman Minister of State in Mizoram in 1987.
