For March 2017 Examinations, Aadhaar Card has been Made Mandatory by the Gujarat Board
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) passed a Government Resolution (GR) in the month of July this year. The GR makes it compulsory for students taking the class 10 and 12 board exams to bear Aadhaar card numbers.
The Supreme Court (SC) had stated in October 2015 that Aadhaar cards will be voluntary. The SC had also stated that no person should be deprived of any benefit due to inability to produce Aadhaar card details. However the GSHSEB’s decision will be applicable from the current academic session.
Students sitting for the March 2017 board exams will have to provide Aadhaar card details while filling the application forms. This is compulsory only for regular students. It does not apply to private and open board candidates. According to R I Patel, GSHSEB examination secretary, this decision will help in scholarship applications of students.
The board’s deputy chairman R. R. Thakkar said that this move will help create a transparent and authentic database. It will also greatly promote the Government’s Aadhaar Card Scheme.
