HP launches “Made for India” tab to deliver scheme benefits using Aadhaar authentication
As India gears up for digital upgradation, now it has a dedicated computer system for its social distribution programmes. HP India launched a “Made for India” Pro8 series of tablet to monitor subsidies through Aadhaar authentication and deliver other benefits related to the government schemes.

Sumeer Chandra, Managing Director, HP Inc India informed that “These devices are exclusively fit for outdoor condition. The devices have 15 hours of battery life for field workers and are dust and water resistant. The 4G-enabled devices with strong battery ensure connectivity even in remote areas”. The company says that the tablet aims to ensure efficient delivery of subsidised food products under the Public Distribution System (PDS). It would also enable comprehensive monitoring of numerous healthcare initiatives and several other flagship programmes run by the central and state governments.
Features and Price
The price of the tablet is quite affordable and its starts from Rs 19,374. The tablet supports regional languages too. The Pro8 tablet range comprises an 8-inch tablet. It has customisable features which will allow the delivery of services, including financial inclusion and benefit schemes. Designed by HP’s Digital India Unit, the device can house pre-loaded apps to support various functionalities. The device has accommodated specific inputs from public and private sector customers. The features include sunlight readable screen for outdoor usage, iris and fingerprint scanner for Aadhar-based authentication. It comes equipped with thermal printer and magnetic-strip reader for financial transactions and bar code scanner for inventory management. The tablet features Android ‘Marshmallow’, Quad Core Processor, 2GB RAM with 16GB on-board storage (expandable up to 64GB) and 6,000mAh high-capacity battery. The company claims that these tablets are not devices but are end-to end solutions. The company has informed that it is looking for partners to bring in their software and solutions into it. [irp]
