Andhra Pradesh Tops Aadhaar Seeding of Jan Dhan Accounts
Following the demonetization move of the government, there has been a rise in seeding of Jan Dhan accounts with Aadhaar number. As of November end around 53.65 % out of 25.51 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts were seeded with Aadhaar numbers. This has now gone up to 63.61% of the 28.01crore PMJDY accounts.
Top 3 states for aadhaar seeding
In Andhra Pradesh, as of 15 March 2017, 87.73% of Jan Dhan accounts were linked with Aadhaar. Tripura and Telangana reported 87.08% and 83.56% seeding of accounts with Aadhaar numbers respectively.
UP, Maharashtra too fare well
In states with more than 1 crore PMJDY accounts the share of Aadhaar seeded accounts has been higher than 53%. While Maharashtra linked 80% of its 1.86 crore Jan Dhan accounts with Aadhaar, Odisha witnessed seeding of 53.90% of its 1.11 crore accounts. In Uttar Pradesh the number of PMJDY accounts grew from 3.76 crore to 4.35 crore. The Aadhaar seeding of accounts also rose from 43.20% to 57.50%
The North Eastern states and J&K
In Assam and Meghalaya, the seeding was below the 10% range. In Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh as well as Jammu and Kashmir, Aadhaar seeding done was below 50%.
