Startup digest: This Indian startup defeats 40 countries at Israel’s MassChallenge
Indian startups are gaining worldwide repute. Adding to this another Indian startup won a prestigious award on Sept 17, 2017at the Israel’s MassChallenge contest. The contest saw the participation of over 500 companies from 40 different countries.
About the winner
Kheyti, a Hyderabad-based startup, won a cash prize of USD 42,000 for developing an affordable modular greenhouse. It was ranked first among the ten finalists. The name ‘Kheyti’ is inspired by hindi title for farming. Kheyti had to go through a three-month process before attaining the honour. It shares the honour with an Israeli startup, RenewSenses. It creates eyes-free perceptual experience for the visually impaired people. Each one of them were awarded with a cash prize of USD 42,850.
What Kheyti does?
It has developed a ‘greenhouse-in-a-box’. It provides technology solutions to small farmers via an affordable greenhouse. It claims that it’s innovation uses 90% less water and grows seven times more food. It gives a steady dependable income to the farmers.
The top ten finalists included another Indian start-up ‘Sukriti’. It has developed a smart toilet cabin that maintains hygiene and enhances user experience in sanitation.
About MassChallenge Israel
MassChallenge Israel is a startup-friendly accelerator. It awarded USD 143,000 cash prizes to four of the highest-impact startups from its 2017 cohort. The ten finalists, along with the cash prize winners, will participate in the first MassChallenge Israel US Trek in November. This would introduce the startups to the innovation ecosystems in Boston and New York.
