Coming soon: Aadhaar enabled biometric scans for airport boarding
The Indian civil aviation ministry is very close to making fingerprints and iris scans the replacement for ID cards being flashed at airport check-ins. The passenger biometrics via ID cards like Aadhar card and passport numbers will be linked with the databases of airlines and airports. This Aadhar-based e-boarding entry is proposed to make the process of boarding much easier for passengers and also increase the element of security at airports. It will grant an easy, seamless and paperless experience to travelers much like Amsterdam’s Schipol airport, Brisbane airport and Hamad airport (Doha). As of now, passengers have to display their printed or mobile air tickets coupled with their government-approved identity card to enter an airport. IT major Wipro has been entrusted the task of coming up a blueprint for Aadhar-based access across India’s airports.
