Lucknow: AAP invites application for women mayor seat

The stage for the civic bodies’ election in Uttar Pradesh is all set. The State Election Commission (SEC) announced the notification for the same in late October.

The total 652 local bodies, comprising of 16 municipal corporations, 198 municipal boards and 438 municipal panchayats will go to polls in three phases. The three phased elections would be held on November 22, 26 and 29 respectively.

The results will be declared on December 1, 2017.

Meanwhile, the SEC has reserved mayor seats in big cities for women candidates. The mayorals seats in cities of Ghaziabad, Lucknow and Varanasi are reserved for women candidates.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced on that it will start taking applications by women candidates for the upcoming mayoral elections in Lucknow.

Gaurav Maheshwari, the district convener of the party, said that women party workers will be given preference but all applications will be throughly screened by the zonal committees.

AAP's media incharge Mahendra Pratap Singh informed that bio-datas can be submitted at the party's Sapru Marg office in Lucknow.

Once the zonal committees have reviewed all applications and small on-spot interviews will be taken to shortlist the candidates, Singh informed.

Soon after the process was made open and announced, the party has started receiving the enquiries, he added.
