NITI Aayog launches special women entrepreneurship cell
It’s good news for ambitious Indian women. Now the central planning unit in India -- Niti Aayog -- is setting up a special cell that would focus on offering financial support and mentorship to women entrepreneurs.
The cell would be called Women Entrepreneurial and Innovation Cell of Niti Aayog. It will be headed by Niti Aayog advisor Anna Roy.
It will offer financial support to women through a Fund of Funds and Mudra micro loans worth Rs 10,000 crore. The cell will also provide mentorship in scaling up the women entrepreneurship. The announcement was made in the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Hyderabad on Nov 30.
The cell will facilitate collaboration with women entrepreneurs who work on scalable models to ensure they are adequately funded.
Niti Aayog has requested all women entrepreneurs to remain in touch with the Niti Aayog cell.
The cell is to come into immediate effect post the summit.
Why this cell
Women entrepreneurs constitute only 11% of Indian startups. Also women-focused venture capital fund, Saha Fund, tells only 3% women entrepreneurs have received VC funding.
