Odisha To Get Ready For UDAN Flights In Feb 2018

Come February and Odisha’s Jharsuguda is in to welcome its gift from the state government.

The Odisha government is preparing to start the regional flights, under Centre’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), drom the first week of February 2018.

The regional flights will connect Jharsuguda with Raipur and Jagdalpur.

Is the state ready?

In the Phase-I of the scheme, four airstrips at Odisha and the Biju Pattanaik International Airports have been selected for implrmenting the UDAN scheme.

The airstrips in Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Utkela (Kalanandi)and Jeypore (Koraput) have been selected. The airstrip in Jharsuguda has been upgraded to a full-fledged airport. The airstrip at Rourkela is also ready for UDAN scheme.

The strips at Utkela and Jeypore will be ready by March 2018.

Some 135 police and 27 fire personnel have   already been trained to provide security and emergency services at the regional airports, informed DGP R P Sharma.

Biju Pattanaik International Airport will serve as the mentor airport of the scheme.

The tickets will be available at an average price of Rs 2,500 under the flights associated with the scheme.
