1) What is Mahila E-Haat? 

Mahila E-Haat is an online marketing platform where women entrepreneurs/self-help groups/NGOs can exhibit and sell products / services they have manufactured through a web portal specifically created for the purpose. 

2) Who launched it and when was it started?

The platform was launched on March 07, 2016 with an investment of about Rs 10 lakh by Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Women & Child Development.

3) How does the portal allow women to do business?

The products and services of women vendors/participants are displayed on the RMK website along with its description, images, price and contact details of the vendors. Consumers can directly contact the women vendors and purchase the products online. 

4) What is the objective of Mahila E-Haat?

Mahila E-Haat has the objective of empowering and strengthening the financial inclusion of women entrepreneurs in the Indian economy. It is an initiative for meeting the aspirations, needs and the creative talents of women entrepreneurs in the country. 

5) What are the specific benefits Mahila E-Haat provides women entrepreneurs?

The digital platform of Mahila E-Haat has simplified the process of doing business for women entrepreneurs. Vendors can now directly trade their items online without incurring any extra expenditure on infrastructure such as setting up a shop. Vendors from every nook and corner of the country can sell their products directly through their phones without commission charges and registration / listing fee.

6) What kind of products are sold through the portal?

Women entrepreneurs display a wide array of products and services for sale in the portal. These include clothes, bags, fashion accessories, gift items, home décor, organic products, carpets, foot mats, soft toys, educational items, natural & industrial products, cushion covers, pottery, etc. 

7) Who fixes the price of products and services on sale?

Women vendors have the complete authority in pricing their sale items and they are also solely responsible for the quality and legality of their products and services.

8) Who are eligible to register as sellers in the Mahila E-Haat portal?

All participating women vendors need to be above 18 years of age and the products they intend to sell should be legal.

9) How can one register as vendors in the Mahila E-Haat portal?

Interested individuals can log in to http://mahilaehaat-rmk.gov.in and click on ‘Join Us’ submenu in the website to fill up the registration form with information on products and services being offered for sale. Aadhaar Card is required as identity proof and also for digital payments on online transactions. The same form can be downloaded and filled to be then sent to the WCD Ministry. 

10) What is the impact of Mahila E-Haat on women entrepreneurship so far?

Since its launch, Mahila E-Haat is impacting 3.50 lakh beneficiaries directly and indirectly and over 26,000 SHGs. Women vendors from 24 states are displaying over 2,000 products and services across 18 categories. The portal received the SKOCH Gold Award on September 9, 2016 and was rated as one of the ‘Top 100 Projects in India’ for 2016.
