1) What is Jeevan Pramaan? Who launched it?

Jeevan Pramaan is a digital service for providing computer generated life certificate for pensioners of Central Government, State Governments, Defense Personnel or any other Government organization. The certificate is produced for individual pensioners using his biometric credentials.

It was launched on 10th November 2014 by by National Informatics Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India.

2) How is this different from traditional Life Certificate issued by Government Offices/Agencies?

For obtaining digital life certificate, pensioners now do not have to present themselves every month in front of Pension Disbursing Agencies such as banks or post offices. They do not have to deliver a life certificate to these PDAs every November for receiving their pension amount. The certificate can be generated from home using a computer/mobile devices, biometric device and internet connection. Hence, Jeevan Pramaan digitizes the whole process of securing the life certificate, making it hassle-free for pensioners and cutting down on unnecessary logistic hurdles.

3) How do I create Jeevan Pramaan digital life certificates if I do not have internet connection, computer or biometric device at home?

You can visit your nearest Citizen Service Centre, banks or designated offices for securing a digital life certificate. You can locate a centre near you by visiting https://jeevanpramaan.gov.in/locater. Alternatively, you can send SMS to 7738299899 by typing JPL <Pin Code>. For instance, JPL 110070 to 7738299899. You will receive a reply message with a list of Jeevan Pramaan centres near you.

4) What are the documents required for registering on Jeevan Pramaan?

Pensioners need to provide their Aadhaar number, Pension Payment Order number, Bank Account number/branch details and mobile number.

5) How can I register myself for Jeevan Pramaan from home?

You need to first download the PC/Mobile application at https://jeevanpramaan.gov.in/app/download by providing your email Id. After installing the application, your document information such as Aadhaar number and PPO number will be authenticated using Aadhaar platform. You will then need to provide your biometrics by using either a fingerprint or Iris scanner. After authentication, you will receive a SMS acknowledgement along with a Jeevan Pramaan Certificate ID. Your digital certificate will be stored in the Life Certificate database which can be accessed by you or the Pension Disbursing Agencies. You can also download a PDF copy of your certificate by providing your Jeevan Pramaan ID / Aadhaar number from the Jeevan Pramaan website.

6) Which biometric devices are currently supported?

Currently, Jeevan Pramaan application supports the following biometric devices:

7) How many times do pensioners have to register in a year?

Pensioners have to register once and later they can generate Jeevan Pramaan using biometric authentication.

8) Is the online registration chargeable?

Registering from home is absolutely free provided you have computer, biometric device and internet connection. However, seeking services from Jeevan Pramaan Centres may incur a nominal fee of Rs. 10 for submission of digital life certificate.

9) Is digital certificate generated by Jeevan Pramaan compulsory to possess for pensioners?

No, it is an optional service. The conventional life certificates are also valild.

10) Is this certificate valid?

Yes. Digital Life certificate is a valid certificate recognized by the IT Act although it has to be renewed on yearly basis.
