Corporate Lawyer, Jhanvi Gadkar’s Driving License was Terminated for Life—Hit and Run Case

Due to the hit and run case in which was involved last year, corporate lawyer, Jhanvi Gadkar’s driving license has been terminated for life. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Mumbai has recently taken this decision.

In the alleged hit and run case, Gadkar was caught drunken-driving, when the accident killed two people and injured four others, in July, 2015. Her license was suspended in the month of September, but she appealed to Deputy Commission of Regional Transport office for regaining her license.

Even though after hearing her lawyers, the RTO officers did not give any personal hearing to Gadkar, and terminated her right to drive for good.

Women in Indore will now receive free driving license, according to the Regional Transport Officer (RTO). M.P. Singh, RTO of Indore has clearly stated that CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has issued such a directive for benefitting women of this state.

These licenses are made free only for first attempt. However, from the second attempt, the applicant might have to pay the usual fee. The government added the provision of free driving license for women in the last year’s budget. However, some objectives were issued at that time, regarding this order.

But now, with a whole new software and technology, women would be able to register for free driving licences through the RTO website. Around 50 applications are received on the average, every day by the RTO, from women drivers.

A proposal has been made in the Ministry of Transport for allowing licenses to be able to drive some gearless scooters, after the riders reach 16 years of age.

Some ministers have recommended various suggestions. The proposal has been made for allowing license after 16 years for gearless scooters below 100cc.

The Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Pon Radhakrishnan, said in the Lok Sabha that the ministry is trying to fit speed limited devices in some vehicles, to prevent safety measures among riders. The ministry further constituted a panel of transport ministers from states to prepare a draft for strict road safety bills.

In Hyderabad Police Detained 222 Minors in One Night for Driving without License

In Hyderabad, in October, 2016, 222 boys, between the age group of 14 to 16 years were apprehended by police for riding bikes in a rash manner, on one single night. In addition, they were found driving without license.

Furthermore, the police seized 22 bikes.

After rebuking the boys at Quli Qutub Shah Stadium, in presence of their parents, the police filed charges against the parents. The case was charged under Section 180 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Even the DCP of Hyderabad, South Zone, warned parents that if the youngsters were found committing the same mistake again, they will be further booked under section 336 of the India Penal Code.

The government is currently working on a proposal to offer people the option to pledge their organs, while they plan to apply for a driving license.

In case, the individual donates any of his organs, it will be marked as a symbol on his or her driving license.

In countries like the UK, USA, Spain, Australia and New Zealand, this has been a common practice. Currently, this policy has been proposed in India. After a long delay, it now rests on the Ministry of Transport to make a final decision.

In India there is a huge paucity of organ resources. According to the Ministry of Health, only about 5000 kidney transplants happen against a need for one or two lakh kidneys each year. Similarly, against the need for about 30,000 liver transplants each year, only 1000 are successfully carried out.
