Ola partners with Microsoft to uplift vehicle experience

In a latest business development that would inch masses closer to technology, Ola has partnered with Microsoft to build a new connected vehicle platform for car manufacturers across the globe.

The Bengaluru-based cab provider declared on its website that Microsoft will be its preferred cloud provider and it will use Microsoft Azure to power Ola Play.

Changing landscape of automobiles

The co-founder and CEO of Ola, Bhavish Aggarwal, said globally the auto industry is experiencing a shift globally. The definition of automobiles is changing from gas-powered vehicles to connected devices, he added.

With Ola Play, the company is aiming to set the tone for connected vehicles in India. It is developing a new platform with Microsoft that will be available to larger, global audience.

Ola Play may unlock futuristic experiences for customers worldwide, claims Agarwal.

Both Microsoft and Ola will further collaborate to help the car manufacturers to integrate the platform within their vehicle systems. Ola Play will leverage Microsoft AI (Artificial Intelligence) to enhance driver experiences with telematics and navigation guidance.

Passenger experiences will be improved with cloud-based infotainment.

Customers also will be able to use productivity tools such as Office 365 and Skype for Business, as well as voice-assisted controls built using Microsoft Cognitive Services and Bot framework in-car, during their rides.

Other features

The advanced telematics platform will transform the car into a high-performing intelligent vehicle. It will be capable of assessing fuel efficiency, engine performance and driver performance. It will enable smarter navigation and may even predict breakdowns.

So, safety and security is now going to create new business models and opportunities.

Ola’s USP against Uber

Ola believes that Ola Play will be a game changer with the nature of its services, usage-based insurance, and other models. Ola needed a differentiator from the San-Francisco-based cab aggregator Uber and Ola play is an answer to it.
